Summer Rising classes at Halsey JHS 157 begin Wednesday July 5 and end on Thursday August 11. Monday to Thursday follows one schedule (classes and an after-school program), while Friday follows a different schedule (all-day after-school program).
Monday to Thursday:
All students will enter the Summer Rising Program through the schoolyard entrance. Breakfast is available from 7:45 AM to 8:00 AM in the cafeteria. Learning will take place from 8:00 AM until 12:00 PM. All students attend classes in ELA and Math, and 8th grade students attend Social Studies and Science as well.
At 12:00 PM, students taking part only in the academic portion of the day can take a grab-and-go lunch and exit through the schoolyard. Students who are remaining for the Queens Community House (QCH) Enrichment program will have lunch in the cafeteria and begin the program immediately afterwards. The Queens Community House Program takes place from 12:00 PM until 5:45 PM.
Friday:
On Friday we follow a different schedule. No classes will take place on Friday. Students participating the Queens Community House Enrichment program will do so from 8:00 AM to 5:45 PM. Breakfast and lunch will be served to students attending during the day.
Procedures for Wednesday July 5th and Thursday July 6th, Days 1 and 2 of Summer Rising: All students participating in the Summer Rising program will enter through the schoolyard entrance, have the option for breakfast in the cafeteria, then report to the auditorium by 8:00 AM (this is for Wednesday and Thursday July 5th-6th only; all other days students report directly to their classrooms).
Busing: Only select students qualify for busing during the summer. To see if your child is assigned a bus route, log into your child’s NYC Schools Account or MyStudent account and look in the “Transportation” section. If your child does not qualify for busing, they may qualify for a Metrocard, which the school will have ready within the first couple of days of Summer Rising. All questions regarding busing and Metrocards need to be directed to the Office of Pupil Transportation: 718-392-8855.
If you have not completed both the QCH Participant & Parent Handbook Agreement and the QCH Registration Form, please reach out to QCH Director – Trevor Spencer, as soon as possible. His contact information is below. Your child will not be allowed to stay for QCH’s PM portion or attend at all on Fridays unless you have competed both forms.
