Q & A with Ms. Wittmer

Q & A Image

Ms. Wittmer has been a member of the Halsey family for 6 years now,  joining us in 2015. She is a graduate of SUNY Cortland (located in Upstate NY) and majored in Secondary Mathematics Education.

We asked Ms. Wittmer why she got into teaching and she responded with:

” I was lucky enough to know I’ve always wanted to be a teacher.  I’ve always loved helping others and working with children. When I was in high school, I worked as a summer camp counselor. I also volunteered my time helping students with learning disabilities in middle school. Teaching and helping others have always been close to my heart.”.

When asked what she would be doing if she was not a teacher, Ms. Wittmer responded by saying:

“I’ve been teaching for a total of 8 years. Believe it or not, I found teaching so difficult my first year that I considered leaving the profession and finding a job using my mathematics background. I knew how valuable a math degree could be and thought about applying my college math courses to do something else, like an accountant, or engineer. But….. I decided I would try another year, and….. I’m glad I stuck with it!  If I wasn’t teaching, I would want to be an architect or an interior designer. I really enjoy design and architecture.”

We asked Ms. Wittmer if she had any interesting hobbies or something we do not know about you that you could share?

“Something you may not know about me is I love scrapbooking. I have 4 complete scrapbooks of all my travels, occasions, and special memories. I layer a ton of different color papers, put borders around all the pictures, and use pretty stickers to decorate the pages! (If you ever had me in previous years, you know my sticker obsession!)”

Ms. Wittmer is another reason why Halsey is such a great school. She is dedicated to her students and it shows by how much her students love her.
