Ms. Shriki is our 7th grade guidance counselor. She has been at Halsey for about 15 years now. For some strange reason she loves Raccoons. Ms. Shriki is responsible for so many of the events that have taken place at the school during her time here. These events include academic events, talent shows, recognizing achievement ceremonies, fundraisers, dances, parties, carnivals, bringing in guest speakers, College Awareness events, Graduation, Prom, Senior Trips, and so much more. She has taken on running after school programs over the years including a dance program where she took the dance team to Florida to perform at the Halftime show of one of the College Bowls. If I remember correctly, a terrible storm ravaged the area and the performance was called off. That didnt stop Ms. Shriki from making sure her students had a great time. A day at Disney World turned those frowns upside down.
That could be enough but what she has done that is so much more important is have such an extraordinary positive impact on the lives of thousands of young people. She has helped thousands of young people navigate some of the toughest years of their lives. Do that for one young person and its a task that takes a community. Now think about 600 students each year for 15 years for ONE person. No one told me there would be math here but that is a lot of young people who will never forget what Ms. Shriki has meant to them.
Author Albert Pike once said “What we do for ourselves dies with us. What we do for others and the world remains and is immortal.” That is Ms. Shriki and her work: Immortal.
