Where did you go to school?

I went to school at Queens College of the City University of New York. Proud Queens College graduate – I have very fond memories and look forward to continuing my future studies there.

How long have you been at Halsey?

This is my first year at Halsey.

What would you be doing if you were not a teacher?

If I weren’t a teacher, I would want to be a librarian, radio host. I love stationery and books and would love to open a small shop someday. I had a dream as a kid about having such a store and remember it so vividly.

Why did you get into education?

I got into education because as a daughter of immigrants who didn’t have the opportunity to finish high school, I understood how valuable education is. It opens doors to opportunities, knowledge, and meaningful relationships. My teachers growing up inspired me to be a lifelong learner because they never made it seem like a chore. It was magical and I remember it being magical. Education has led to me being the first in my family to graduate from high school and college. If it weren’t for my education, I wouldn’t have been able to meet the people that I did, experience the joy of being a math major, have the cool internship opportunities I had as a college student, and most importantly being a teacher now to the amazing students at Halsey.

What is your favorite thing about being a teacher?

My favorite thing about being a teacher is interacting with the students and seeing them grow as mathematicians. Also, hearing there very funny and unique stories. The students are bright, resilient, and positive. They have so much to share, and I enjoy hearing every bit of it. Every day is a joy to be working with my classes – shoutout to 703 and 704!

Any hobbies or interests that we do not know you would like to share?

Hobbies I have is personal archiving to preserve family history and memories, embroidery, recreational mathematics, learning programming for personal projects such as my archive, and exploring the city with my little sister (who’s not so little – she’s a freshman at Hunter – but she’ll always be little to me). Also watching old Disney and Nickelodeon shows with my sister. We are going through all the seasons of Wizards of Waverly Place now but have already re-watched all of Drake and Josh, iCarly, Zoey 101, and Victorious. I’ve already watched As Told by Ginger on my own.
