Mrs. Ash

Where did you go to school?

I went to Plainedge High School on Long Island, SUNY Cortland for my undergraduate degree and Dowling College for my Master’s degree.

How long have you been at Halsey?

I’ve been teaching at Halsey since September 2015 (here for 6 years now—wow!)

What would you be doing if you were not a teacher?

If I weren’t a teacher, I’d want to be a therapist or guidance counselor because I love talking to and helping people feel good about themselves and find happiness.

Why did you get into education?

I went into education because I was inspired by the many influential teachers I had growing up throughout my academic career. A teacher that had the most profound impact on my decision to go into teaching was Mrs. Brennan, my eleventh grade English teacher. Her passion and dedication to her craft and to literature mesmerized me and fostered my love of books; whose guidance taught me the power each of us has as “authors” to express ourselves through the written word.

What is your favorite thing about being a teacher?

My favorite thing about being a teacher are my students! I love the bond we share and watching them grow, take risks, and gain confidence and trust in both themselves and their classmates.

Any hobbies or interests that we do not know you would like to share?

Some of my hobbies/interests: hiking, yoga, journaling & creative writing, traveling, listening to music (country, classic rock, early 2000’s pop and punk rock), and binge watching Friends or New Girl on Netflix.
