Halsey Bulldogs Debate Team at the 2018 Middle School City Championships

The Halsey Bulldogs Debate Team did great in the 2018 Middle School City Championships held this weekend! Here are some results:

Public Forum: One of our teams advanced into the Top 16 (Octafinals) and one of our teams made it into the Top 8 (Quarterfinals)! Three of our students earned individual Speaker Awards, which is a new record for the Halsey Bulldogs!

Parliamentary: One of our teams made it into the Top 16 with a near-perfect record, and one of our Halsey Bulldogs earned a top 10 individual Speaker Award! Nice!

Congressional: [there are no teams in Congressional] Two Halsey Bulldogs took Second and Third place overall! Awesome!

Congratulations to the Debate Team for an impressive showing in the City Championships, and thanks again to Ms. Tchilingarian and Mr. Sarris who were amazing coaches.

Take the 2018 NYC School Survey

As a parent, your feedback on the Learning Environment Survey helps principals and school leaders work to improve your child’s school. Survey results also contribute to your school’s annual Progress Report grade. It is imperative that all our families complete the survey. You can take the survey online or fill out the paper survey and return it to school with your child. Each family will complete just ONE survey.

You can visit the website to take the Parent Survey at but you will need your ACCESS CODE in order to complete the survey. The access code will also be printed on your paper survey. If you would like parent coordinator Mike Zevon to send you your access code please send an e-mail with your child’s name and class to and he will get it to you ASAP.

Once you receive your paper survey you could still complete it online by using the access code listed on the survey.

The survey is available in 10 languages so please click on the language you are most comfortable using.

Beyond Beautification Update, March 2nd

Halsey’s “Beyond Beautification” project is progressing. We are beginning to implement the plans for Halsey’s green spaces to redesign them to be a setting for educational and experiential opportunities for students and a source of pride for the community as a whole.

Signs have been posted around the school about Halsey’s new “Green Team”. Interested students have already begun to visit Mr. Weiss. Space is limited! If your child is interested in the Green Team, encourage your child to see Mr. Weiss in room B6 during your child’s designated lunch period.

In February, the Halsey PTA voted to support the “Beyond Beautification” project. This generosity is being tapped into right away. Raised planting beds will start to appear in front of our school building. As soon as the weather permits, plants will also appear. Be on the lookout for them!

The Sprint Plant Sale has arrived!

The “Farm to Table” and growing “Green Team” are selling plants to raise money to buy plants for Halsey’s green spaces. Selling plants to buy plants? Is that an example of irony or is it just clever? Where are our ELA teachers? Someone weigh in on this please.

Check out the flyer and online order form!

Flyers will be sent home with students next week.
Please support this fundraiser.

We still need international plant nominations!

Part of the “Beyond Beautification” project’s mission is to create green spaces that “belong” to all of our students. We are seeking to install plants from the more than 50 countries of origin of our students and staff. Please nominate your favorite flower or shrub (sorry, we do not have the space for trees) for inclusion in Halsey’s green spaces.

Nominations may be sent directly to Mr. Weiss at
