The transition to middle school is often one that comes with many changes and challenges. One of those changes includes the workload. Students are required to take notes independently and may face multiple exams per week. While this can be overwhelming for some, with the collaboration of parents, support staff, teachers and administration we have created an after school program focusing on teaching study skills. Study skills that may have been successful in elementary school may not be up to par with the rigor faced in middle school. Just like any other skill, studying, taking notes and organization is important towards middle school success.
Starting on Wednesday, September 25th or Thursday, September 26th (depending on which day your child selects to participate) we will be offering a study skills class for our 6th grade students. This class will teach students how to study, how to take notes, how to stay organized and various helpful strategies that will help them acclimate to middle school. Depending on which class your child is registered, the class will meet one time per week either every Wednesday from
2:20 – 4:00 pm or every Thursday from 2:20-4:00pm. The one day per week class will end the week of October 23rd and 24th.
If your child is registered, they must commit to attend. If they are excessively absent, their seat will be given to another student.
This permission slip is due back to Ms. Shriki in room 324 no later than Friday, September 20th. The classes will be set on a first come first serve basis. There will be a waiting list as well for those who do not receive a seat. If you have any questions please feel free to contact Ms. Shriki at sshriki@schools.nyc.gov or Mr. Zevon mzevon@schools.nyc.gov.
Once your child is accepted into the program they will receive a confirmation letter with the day and room number of their study skills class. There is no yellow bus transportation after study skills class.
