It’s Your Friday Update!

We hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. We are back to business here at Halsey and already we had a busy week. We had Parent Teacher Conferences on Tuesday. We may have shattered and all time record of parents seen. The place was packed and most of our parents got to see all the teachers they needed to. If for some reason you were unable to see a specific teacher and would like to schedule some time to meet with them please send them an email through pupil path or find their email on our school directory located on our website and schedule an appointment. Every Tuesday after school is Parent Engagement time and our teachers will meet with the parents as long as you schedule an appointment with them.

Our new Improv Team will be meeting every Wednesday after school!

Student Perception Survey

The kick-off for the Student Perception Survey is December 3rd 2018.

We know that teachers care about their students and improving their instructional practice. Often, the data available to improve instructional practice does not include direct feedback from students. The New York City Department of Education (DOE) partners with Panorama Education to offer the Student Perception Survey, a research-based, confidential student survey used across the country to provide teachers with students’ feedback about their classroom experiences.

The Student Perception Survey is administered for formative purposes only, and not as a part of Advance, New York City’s system for teacher development and evaluation.

This survey is designed to measure students’ perceptions on teaching and learning in a particular class by asking a range of questions that focuses on the following five topics:

  • Pedagogical Effectiveness
  • Classroom Climate
  • Classroom Rigorous Expectations
  • Classroom Engagement
  • Classroom Teacher-Student Relationships

A message about our PTA Executive Board:Our PTA Executive Board work really hard in organizing fund raisers, PTA meetings, attending SLT meetings, and volunteering at different events throughout the year. At the same time they are all full time parents with full time jobs and unfortunately life gets in the way sometimes when they would like to do things for the school. This is why we need as many parents as possible to attend monthly PTA meetings and volunteer to help at fund raisers. We really need your help in making our PTA a success. If you are interested in helping the PTA please contact them at If you are interested in purchasing any Spirit Wear you can do so through their website at appreciate your willingness to help at your school. “They” say involved parents = successful students and I know for a fact “they” are right.

Ms. Shikowitz will hold auditions for Show Choir on Monday, January 7th from 2:30-4:00 PM in the chorus room. Show Choir is a group that sings and dances to Broadway and pop tunes, similar to the television show “Glee”. Students in all grades and talent programs can audition.

For the audition, students should prepare a verse and a chorus from a pop song or Broadway song that they enjoy singing. It must be memorized. Students will then learn a short dance that they will perform in a group. Show Choir meets each Monday from 2:30-4:00 PM. Show Choir will perform in the spring chorus concert.

Please contact Ms. Shikowitz with any questions or concerns about Show Choir.
