The Parent Teacher Association is pleased to announce we are accepting letters of nomination for Officers of the PTA for the upcoming 2018-2019 school year. Eligibility for office is open to parents, guardians, or persons in a parental relation to a child currently at Halsey and attending for the 2018-2019 school year, and who are not employed at the school.
Officers are elected for a one-year term beginning July 1 and ending June 30. The minimum officer positions available are: President (or Co-Presidents), Vice President, Treasurer, and Recording Secretary. It must, however, be noted: it is a necessity that at least one of the positions of President, Treasurer, and Recording Secretary be filled for our PTA to remain viable. A viable PTA must exist for any future fundraising and/or expenditures on behalf of our children.
The PTA of JHS 157 is looking for parent candidates to run for election to the School Leadership Team (SLT). There are four parent positions open this year. The candidate elected to this position will take office as of July 1, 2018. The term of office is two years (from July 1, 2018 through June 30, 2020).
The School Leadership Team is the group that has the most input into decisions related to the educational goals of the school. It is made up of an equal number of parents and school staff. It meets once a month. Parents, guardians, foster parents and persons in parental relation to children attending JHS 157 are eligible to serve as parent members on the School Leadership Team. Prior experience in school government is not required.
The SLT’s major responsibilities include:
- developing the school’s Comprehensive Educational Plan (CEP),
- matching the budget to meet educational goals, and
- evaluating the goals set in the school’s CEP in terms of student achievement.
If you are interested in becoming a candidate for the School Leadership Team, please complete the form attached below and return it to school with your child by May 8, 2018.
This is an excellent opportunity to participate in the decision-making process of the school.

Nominations will also be taken in-person from the floor at our PTA/Nominating meeting on May 8, 2018, as well as before the election at our PTA meeting on June 12, 2018.
The elections will be held June 12, 2018 during our PTA meeting at school (63-55 102nd Street, Rego Park, 11374). The meeting will be at 7 pm and is held in the library.
