Parent Coordinator’s Weekly Update

Parent Coordinator Weekly Update

HOLYMOLY IT’S DECEMBER ALREADY!

“It’s the most wonderful time of the year. There’ll be much mistltoeing. And hearts will be glowing. When love ones are near. It’s the most wonderful time of the year!”

8 days of Hanukkah, Christmas Eve, 12 days of Christmas, 7 days of Kwanzaa, Winter Solstice, New Years Eve, FESTIVUS, MY BIRTHDAY! Who could ask for anything more? There is just something really special about this time of the year. Seeing the holiday decorations, beautiful lights, the spirit of giving, a little bit of snow (not too much Mother Nature!) and that wonderful December school break! I just love it.

We have begun to make our lobby at Halsey look festive for the holidays. The Parent Coordinators little Elves are busy decorating. By next week we should be looking pretty good!

On to business….

THANK YOU to the hundreds upon hundreds of family members who turned out for our Parent Teacher Conferences last night. It was wonderful meeting all our new families and catching up with our returning ones as well. We are one big family here at Halsey and you all mean a lot to us so thank you for coming.

The Halsey JHS 157 PTA is sponsoring a wonderful campaign this Holiday season. The 2017 Toy Drive is now underway and what a beautiful cause they have chosen to donate to.

Jackie and Warren are truly incredible and giving people.  Once again, they will be collecting toys for a toy drive and will hand deliver them to poverty-stricken kids in the New York area.  They amaze us with their strength.  Every year, they spend Christmas Eve handing out these gifts in the community center of a project development in Harlem.

This year, we are proud that Halsey will help to collect toys for this toy drive. We ask that if you see something that your own child might like, perhaps buy 2 and donate one of them.  Please keep them UNWRAPPED and send the toys to Halsey by December 13th! Even just one toy from each of you would make a HUGE difference to these families in need.  It will be hand-distributed through the Hance Family Foundation in memory of Emma, Aly and Kate.  They will be handed out to children who need them most; to families that are struggling and are not able to provide a Christmas for their kids.   We can guarantee that your donation will change a life of a child.

Please visit the website www.hancefamilyfoundation.com to learn about all of the incredible things that this foundation has accomplished since its inception.

Please share this email with anyone that you know who has some extra holiday love to share.

If you have any questions please contact us at HalseyPTA@gmail.com or contact the Parent Coordinator – Mike Zevon at 718-830-4984 or MZevon@schools.nyc.gov

Thank you so much.
Happy Holidays.

Our next PTA meeting will take place on Tuesday, December 5th 2017 at 7:00 pm in the school library. The agenda will be sent out shortly.

Spirit Wear is on sale. You can purchase your spirit wear by clicking the order form here.

Please do not forget to donate to the PTA Annual Appeal. All donations go right back to Halsey JHS to repair musical instruments, purchase equipment, purchase air conditioners, provide transportation for our trips, and so much more. We are making sure all our students have the best education possible during their middle school years. You can click HERE for the Annual Appeal donation form.

Picture Re-Take Day is
Monday, December 4th 2017.

If you were unhappy with the pictures you took on October 20th all you have to do is send those photos back with your child on Monday. Each class will be called down and they will get a retake. Please make sure you notify your child that they need to pay attention to when the teachers let them know its time to go down if they are taking pictures.

We also had a number of students who paid for pictures last session and for some reason they did not come down to take their pictures. Please, again, remind your child to listen for when his teacher lets them know to go downstairs. There will not be another date after this.

We will also have our Parent Coordinator Workshop that same night at 6:00 pm. This months topic will be Social Media & Internet Safety. In this day and age where our children have access to social media it is important for us parents to understand how to protect them to the best of our ability.  We invite all our parents to come out and join in this important discussion on how we can protect our children from the dangers on the internet.
